The America was built in 1940 for the United States Lines and served on the transatlantic route. She was sold to the Chandris Group in 1964 and renamed 'Australis'. In 1978 she changed ownership and name several times and in 1979 she was rebuilt and one funnel was removed. In 1980 she was sold to the Inter Commerce Corporation and renamed 'Noga'. In 1984 she was laid up and sold in 1993 and renamed 'American Star'. In 1994 she broke loose while in tow to a repair yard and stranded and lost.
