ОписаниеSmall silver-coloured metal medal, commemorating the opening of the Thames Tunnel in 1843. One side depicts the Thames Tunnel itself, with the two archways and the staircases leading down towards them. The other side shows a profile portrait of Marc Brunel (named as 'Sir Isambart Marc Brunel, F.R.S.' in a caption). Short captions on both sides of the medal provide information on the dimensions and cost of the tunnel, and how long it took to build, as well as on the maker of the medal itself, William Griffin of 25 Change Alley in Cornhill.
The medal is listed in Laurence Brown's British Historical Medals (3 volumes), number 2144.
