ОписаниеA silver-coloured medal commemorating the opening of the Thames Tunnel in 1843. One side shows the Wapping entrance, the other presumably the Rotherhithe entrance. Each image shows the two arches of the tunnel as well as the staircases down into the tunnel. Small figures of people are visible walking in the tunnel and on the stairs.
There is a caption at the bottom on each side of the medal, noting when the Thames Tunnel was opened, its cost, dimensions, and the name of the architect, Marc Brunel ('Sir I. M. Brunel').
The medal was made by William Griffin.
It is listed in Laurence Brown's British Historical Medals (3 volumes), number 2131.
