Patterned border with writing inside: 'To the Barrier Gate Keeper, Visitors' Archway. Pass the Bearer to the Shield'. Signed 'McI. Brunel' in ink with 1840 annotated next to it.
It then states "N.B. It is requested that no money be given to any person on the Works, as there is a Box for voluntary contributions towards the SICK FUND'."
