НазваниеDiary page for 1 to 7 March, no year given, Marc Brunel on Thames Tunnel work
Создатель Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
ОписаниеPart of a diary page by Sir Marc Brunel. Covers Thursday 1st to Wednesday 7th March, no entry for the Sunday, and no year given.
He records work on the Thames Tunnel, mentioning visiting a place called Chantry's, making a report, issues with silt and the condition of the ground in the tunnel, work on the west arch, and dealing with the frames and piers. On Friday 2nd there was a committee; Marc reports that all there were 'very much pleased.' On Tuesday 6th there was a general meeting which 'went off most satisfactorily.' Isambard is 'poorly.' Mr Beamish has written to Mr Fraser; Marc later mentions that Beamish has returned 'to his duty' presumably after an absence. Marc visited the tunnel and was mostly satisfied with it but for the fact that there were no bricks; Isambard sent to Hoxton for them. Marc comments that 'it sometimes takes 1000 bricks' because of the condition of the ground, particularly in the east part of the tunnel. Marc briefly mentions Mr Telford. He includes several small pen drawings of the tunnel, including of (frames?) 11 and 12, with notes on the loose ground.
