ОписаниеLetter by Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes, dated 18 February 1838. Concerns the construction of the Thames Tunnel. He says that things are going well and that he is working on his report for next Wednesday's meeting. They are working in the tunnel in a 'cautious way' due to the lack of 'covering'. He discusses the recent irruptions, and the quantities of water involved, and says that 'if we had had our covering completed in time or at any rate [ ? ] we should do more.'
Signed 'M.I Brunel'. One sheet of paper folded. Addressed to 'Bn Hawes Esq 35 Brunswick Square' on recto with remains of a black seal and a small hole where the seal was removed.
