Создатель Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
ОписаниеLetter by Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to Benjamin Hawes, undated. Concerns the construction of the Thames Tunnel and refers to the tunnelling shield.
He says that he wants his 'scene' to be redrawn in a better way. He reports that the Shield is free of water and the polings in good order. Nonetheless, there will be no attempts to advance further in the tunnelling until the damaged/missing side staves have been replaced. Marc has devised a failproof system for securing the whole tunnel front. He says, however, that there could still be potential danger to the men, especially as there are fewer of them and some of them are inexperienced. He reports on the 'covering' in/of the tunnel (?) and says that he will wait up for a while to receive the first of the night bulletins, as he has finished this letter at midnight.
Signed 'M.I. Brunel'. One sheet of paper folded. Addressed to 'Bn Hawes Esq M.P Mortlake' on reverse with an incomplete black seal.
