ОписаниеLetter from Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes, dated 24 August 1833. He writes about the expected advantages for a town from the arrival of the Railway, although he says that 'no assistance however can be anticipated from this side of the water.' He is apparently writing from overseas, most likely Ireland. He describes the country as 'the dryest and dirtiest country in the world' with dusty roads 'like the waste steam from a steamers' chimney.'
One sheet folded with red wax seal on outside of letter. Addressed to 'Bn Hawes Jun. Esq M.P., Old Barge House, London' with postmarks for Dublin. Torn fragment of paper inside.
