ОписаниеSilver snuffbox presented to Dr Andrew Alexander, ship's surgeon of ss Great Britain, in 1855. Rectangular box with shaped outline. Top of box lid has inscription, which reads: "Presented to Dr Alexander by the Firemen of the Steam Ship Great Britain as a token of respect. Liverpool mdccclv". Hallmarks inside lid and base of box identify it has having been made by the silversmith Edward Smith, in Birmingham, in 1853.
Andrew Alexander was born in 1818 in Ayrshire and died in Talbot, Victoria. In 1841 he received the LFPSG (licentiate of the faculty of physicians and surgeon of Glasgow) qualification.
