The vast screw and paddle steamer is to the left of the frame and viewed from a lower vantage point. Figures and other vessels are dwarfed by the mammoth ship.
The loose brushwork adds to the atmospheric moody sky. Sunlight peeps through the cloud edge and reflects on the wet sand.
