НазваниеLetter from John Robinson Gibson to Isambard Kingdom Brunel about the launching of the Great Eastern
Создатель John Robinson Gibson (author)
ОписаниеWritten from Eastern Counties Railway Land Agent's Office, Bishopsgate Station. The letter explains that the writer, although not an engineer, is, like much of the rest of the country, interested in seeing the Great Eastern launched. Gibson suggests tying together a great number of empty barrels and fastening them under the cradles or along the whole length of the keel. Gibson hopes that this might provide the ship with sufficient buoyancy to float the ship at the next Spring Tide. Gibson is sure that, since London's brewers keep a good many empty barrels on hand and since the barrels will take no injury, the brewers might be induced, out of a sense of patriotism at the great undertaking, to lend the barrels for free.
