History of Building Types

This book, an expanded version of the A. W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts, has been Sir Nikolaus's major preoccupation since the monumental Buildings of England series came to an end. It is both a much-needed introduction to an important subject, summing up a vast body of information amassed by scholars in many countries, and a pointer to the way in which research will develop in the future
