'In classical knot theory, a useful set of invariants of knot type are the elementary ideals in the integral group ring '^' of the integers. These can be expressed as invariants of the homology of the universal abelian covering of the complement of the knot. In this paper we study the natural generalization of these considerations to higher dimensional knots of codimension two.'
