Sea Story : being a Guide to Nautical Reading from Ancient Times to the Close of the Sailing Ship Era
-
The object of this book being mainly the encouragement of nautical reading, it has been devised in two parts - a text consisting of a historical sketch and explanation, and an extensive bibliography of works for further reading. The historical sketch attempts to cover in broad outline all important maritime developments, in the fields of discovery, trade, ship design, navigation, and war, from ancient times to, approximately, the end of the sailing-ship era; with illustrations, where possible, from contemporary literature.
