Richard Tames identifies the figures as John Scott Russell, Henry Wakefield, Brunel, and Solomon Tredwell at the launch [1859]'. The National Portrait Gallery catalogue, which holds the original, identifies the figures as William Harrison, William Jacomb, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Solomon Tredwell.
