DescriptionModel of steam ship 'Gloucester Castle'.
Built by Fairfield for the Union Castle Line in 1911. One of a class of three ships, she was the oldest Union Castle ship in 1939 and spent three years continuously voyaging between Great Britain and South Africa. She was surprised in darkness and sunk by the German raider 'Michel' on 15 July 1942 about 1,300 miles south east of Freetown.
