TitleDrawings of deck of ss Great Britain by passenger H. Zumstein, 1863
Creator Herman Zumstein (artist)
DescriptionTwo photographs of original drawings made by a passenger onboard the SS Great Britain. The original drawings were made by Herman Zumstein, a Swiss man, age 30 at time of voyage, on a voyage from Melbourne to Liverpool in 1863. The drawing depict two views of the top deck, one facing fore and one facing aft, and appear to have been done in pencil. The show cloth coverings hung above the deck, likely to protect passengers from the elements. The ship's sidelights, capstone, and funnels are also shown. Several passengers and crew members are shown strolling, reclining, and working on deck.
Photographs are mounted on board, framed and glazed, with label. Label reads "photographs of original sketches by a passenger in 1863 - 1. looking forward, 2. looking aft"
