TitleThe Great Britain Steamer in Port Jackson, Dec. 1852
CreatorIllustrated Sydney News (publisher)
DescriptionA coloured print showing the SS Great Britain in Port Jackson, Sydney in December 1852. The ship is shown in the configuration with four masts and two parallel funnels, which is how she made the first few voyages to Australia in the 1850s. There are multiple small boats in the foreground with people being rowed out to see the ship. The print appears to be a hand-coloured cutting, probably from the Illustrated Sydney News.
The SS Great Britain visited Sydney only on her first three voyages to Australia between 1852 - 54.
On the back of the paper is a further engraving showing the paddle steamer 'HMS Torch' rescuing the crew and passengers from the wreck of the 'Ningpo' in 1854.
