DescriptionMedal commemorating the launch of The Great Britain Steam Ship in 1843. WM medal, 45mm, manufactured by J. Davis. Obverse bears the head of Prince Albert, facing left. Inscription on obverse reads: THIS VESSEL WAS LAUNCHED AT BRISTOL, IN THE PRENSENCE OF H.R.H PRINCE ALBERT JULY 19 1843. Reverse bears a starboard view of the vessel. Inscription on reverse reads: THE GREAT BRITAIN STEAM SHIP In exergue: LENGTH 322 FEET./MAIN BREATH 50FT 6./DEPTH 32FT 6. The medal has a small hole in the top.
