DescriptionMedal commemorating the launch of the The Great Britain Steam Ship in 1843. WM medal, 45mm, manufactured by J. Davis. Medal is incomplete, when looking at the obverse a section of the right side is broken away and the metal is corroded. Obverse bears the head of Prince Albert, facing left. Inscription on obverse reads: THIS VESSEL WAS LAUNCHED AT BRISTOL, IN THE PRE[NSENCE OF H.R.H PRINCE] ALBERT JULY 19 1843. Reverse bears a starboard view of the vessel. Inscription on reverse reads: [THE GREAT] BRITAIN STEAM SHIP In exergue: LENGTH 322 FEET./MAIN BREATH 50FT 6./DEPTH 32FT 6. The medal has a small hole in the top.
