The print is entitled 'The Arrival of the Iron Steam Ship Great Britain. Commanded by James Hosken R.N. as she appeared on Sunday at 4 o'clock P.M. August 10th 1845 from the foot of Clinton Street New York. The length of the Keel 289 feet. Total length 322ft. Beam 51ft. Depth 32ft 6 inches. Engine 1000 Horse power.'
The ship can be seen going alongside a dock, with crowds of people gathered in the foreground lining the dockside to witness the arrival. There are also several horse-drawn carriages. The ship is depicted as flying large flags at her mast tops, with the red ensign at her stern. In the background the shoreline of Brooklyn is visible.
