TitleCaisson of the Great Western dry dock, 1928
DescriptionMetal caisson, in situ in dry dock at the Great Western Dockyard. Slightly concave shape, on either side of the caisson on its side inside the dock there are two square holes and what appears to be two pulleys.
This caisson dates from 1928 and is possibly the earliest of its type in the country. It operates like a floating dam and is weighed down inside by iron weights and gravel. It sits in two vertical slots cut into the sides of the dry dock entrance.
