Printed booklet patent holds six pages, and two sheets illustrating Smith's designs for 'Smith's Improved Propeller for Steam and Other Vessels' - from 1839 and 1836 respectively.
Known as the 'screw propeller', which was later first put into design on the SS Archimedes as the world's first steamship to be driven by a screw propeller.
Verso design, for 1839 version, has been stamped 'Manchester Free Library, 1851'.
