DescriptionNinety-six page diary written by the cricketer Edward Mills Grace, travelling as a first class passenger onboard SS Great Britain between Liverpool and Melbourne, October-December 1863. Grace was travelling to Australia and New Zealand as part of the All England XI 1863/64 cricket tour. The diary includes, among other things, lengthy descriptions of the other passengers and social life aboard the SS Great Britain; wildlife sightings and encounters; illness and onboard accidents; and the food and drink available. The diary has been covered with a folded piece of appropriated paper, through which type and a table of information can be seen.
Edward Mills Grace was the elder brother of cricketer W.G. Grace and both brothers were also doctors. The Grace family were from Downend, Bristol. Edward Mills Grace was born in Downend and died in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire.
