The book dates from 1868 to 1886 and begins with a detailed list of costs of the build and fitting out. It then continues to list the accounts of the first sixteen voyages of the ‘Araby Maid’. For each voyage there are detailed lists of costs for supplies and cargoes loaded, a list of crew and their wages, as well as a list of costs and expenses in each port the vessel entered.
The first voyage took place from 1868 to 1870 with the vessel sailing from Glasgow to Sydney and then on to Shanghai and Foo Choo before returning to London. The last recorded voyage documented in the book (16) took place in 1885/86 and the ship sailed from Cardiff to San Francisco and returned to Galway.
