DescriptionRed leather on card former. With silk lining, there are inscriptions on either side, in italic script. On the left “Lent to the Kensington Portrait Gallery” and on the right “ Sir Isambard Brunel portrait of himself about 1806”. Copper alloy hinge which is a bit loose. Inner edge of right recess edged with flat cord. Two hooked fasteners hold the case shut. However, case will only shut with added pressure put on weakened hinge. Cut out rectangular recesses at the top of the case to allow the suspension loop to project beyond the case. Well worn case, covered in scratches and frayed along the edges.
