TitleTurban shell depicting SS Great Britain and Omar Pasha, the Ottoman Commander in Chief
DescriptionEngraved turban shell depicting the SS Great Britain and Omar Pasha, the Ottoman Commander in Chief. Omar Pasha is depicted in profile and above the image is a description of him.
In 1855/56 the SS Great Britain was used as a troopship by the British government during the conflict in the Crimea. It is likely that Omar Pasha either travelled on the ship himself, or at the very least had some of his troops transported on the SS Great Britain, as she was one of the largest and fastest vessels available at the time.
