Titless Great Britain, 1852
Creator Samuel Walters (artist), Thomas Goldsworthy Dutton (engraver)
DescriptionPrint, framed, mounted and glazed with back board. This print shows the ss Great Britain in profile at sea during the daytime. The Great Britain is resplendent with four masts and two funnels. This dates the ship in the period 1852 to 1853. Both funnels are billowing smoke and the vast majority of the sails are down and full of wind. On the ships' deck you can see the crew milling about carrying out their duties.
The water seems rough and the backdrop is full of white/grey clouds. there are four other ships in the background, one to the left and three to the right. There is also a small steam ship in front the Great Britain, possibly a tug. This boat is sailing away from the Great Britain, two of her crew raising their hats in salute to the great ship's departure.
