DescriptionA Meissen plate painted by Lady Sophia Macnamara Hawes, with pierced borders picked out in pink and gold and reserving scroll-bordered panels. One of the painted panels depicts a woman (possibly Sophia Hawes herself) seated sketching, the Clifton Suspension Bridge behind her. Another panels shows figures in front of a family home, and the last shows a girl (possibly Sarah Fox Hawes) seated in a landscape. Cancelled crossed swords mark on reverse and signed 'SM Hawes Feb 1840', identification initials behind each panel.
