DescriptionSmall white ceramic trumpet vase painted by Sophia Macnamara Hawes, sister of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, in 1855. Around the rim and the base is decorative gilding with a painted floral decoration around the neck of the vase. Below this are paintings on one side a woman walking through a field and trees, in a long orange and white skirt and green blouse, wearing a straw hat with a flower attached to it. On the other side is a bunch of flowers, with a blue butterfly separating the two images.
Signed on the base 'S.M.Hawes 1855'.
