DescriptionSmall trumpet vase painted with floral decorations and figure of a woman, possibly in rural costume. Painted by Sophia Macnamara Hawes in 1855. Floral decoration around the neck of the vase with gold gilding at the mouth. On one side of the vase is a woman walking through a field. Flanked by trees, she is depicted in a long orange and white skirt and green blouse, wearing a straw hat with a flower attached to it. On the other side of the vase are a bunch of flowers. Both images are separted from each other by a picture of a single butterfly, continuing the bucolic theme. The base displays the same pattern of gold gilding as the mouth of the vase.
