DescriptionSmall tin medal, with slight tarnishing. It is a commemorative medal for the launch of the SS Great Britain in 1843. One side depicts the SS Great Britain under sail and steam, with six masts and puffs of smoke coming from the funnel. It is captioned with the ship's name and has a set of details underneath regarding the dimensions of the ship, its weight and horse power, launch date, and its having been launched by Prince Albert. On the reverse is a profile portrait of Prince Albert with his name and birth date.
The medal is listed in Laurence Brown's British Historical Medals (3 volumes), number 2120.
