DescriptionSmall white metal medal, commemorating the Great Eastern steamship. On the obverse is a starboard view of the Great Eastern with captions above and beneath. The captions read: 'THE GREAT EASTERN STEAM SHIP/I. K. BRUNEL ESQ./2600 HORSE POWER/692 FT LONG/WILL CARRY 10,000 TROOPS.'
On the reverse are busts of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in profile, with their names encircling them. The medal probably dates to circa 1859 when the ship was launched.
