Letter from Palmerston introducing Hawes to a Mr. Foster, a Quaker and friend of Palmerston's who has just returned from a stay in Co. Sligo in Connaught. As it transpires from this letter Mr. Foster has a great interest in helping the poor people of Ireland who are suffering through the famine. In particular, he is anxious to help those fleeing to Canada in search of a better life by providing some means to help them forge a new life for themselves. Palmerston is writing to Hawes on behalf of Mr. Foster to ask for his help in this matter.
