DescriptionSmall package made up of a piece of paper wrapped around two small pieces of coal. The outer wrapper is folded in four.
There are inscriptions on the outer and inner wrapping. Label states 'A piece of coal brought from the bed of Thames - going down in the Diving with Isambard, Charlotte Baldwin & c., 25 April 1826'.
The inscription on inner wrapping reads: 'Fanny M.... from ..... Inscription inside inner wrapping: Mrs Hawes Stanley Gr.... Mortlake Surrey'. There are remains of red sealing wax on the inner surface of the inner wrapping.
