Creator Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
DescriptionCutting from a diary page, by Sir Marc Brunel, dated 11 and 15 January 1844.
For 11 January, he records that he went to Coleford at the request of someone 'who pretended to some valuable discoveries, in steam propellers for steam vessels', but Marc was unimpressed, saying that 'on inspection, I found nothing fit for the object.'
Entry for 15 January: 'In 1793, on this day, being at the Caffe de l'Echelle, Rue de l'Echelle at Paris, I incurred the greatest risk of my Life by a most daring attempt in favour of the king Louis XVI'. This possibly refers to an occasion on which Marc publicly criticised Robespierre. He goes on to say that he had to leave Paris the following day.
