Creator Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
DescriptionLetter by Sir Marc Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes, dated 18 May 1837. Concerns the construction of the Thames Tunnel. He refers to a man, whose name he can't remember, who 'expressed his wish to be one of the Committee' that is possibly going to be formed for an 'enquiry' into the Thames Tunnel. Marc adds that 'I wish I could report progress' on the tunnel itself, and goes on to say 'The Holy days have caused a defection of many of the few men we have.'
Signed 'M.I. Brunel'. One sheet of paper folded. Addressed to 'Bn Hawes Esq M.P. Commercial Road' on reverse with postmarks and a prominent black ink swirl which looks a bit like a 2.
