TitleLetter by Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes, undated but after Thames Tunnel opening
Creator Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
DescriptionA letter by Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes. It is undated, but is written on Thames Tunnel notepaper with an illustration of the Tunnel at Rotherhithe at the top of the page, the caption to which notes the Tunnel's opening on 25 March 1843. The letter was therefore presumably written after this date.
Marc writes that he has 'received the check for 60£', as well as the parcel for his wife, Lady Sophia Brunel. He says he shall be at Paddington the following day and 'may see the prince'. Isambard has said that he also intends to be there.
The letter is signed 'M.I Brunel', with 'Bn Hawes Esq. M.P.' written underneath and 'Bn. Hawes Esq MP' written on verso. One sheet of paper.
