DescriptionCommemorative map printed on cloth of the Thames Tunnel. In the middle of the map is a large circle showing the two entrances, as well as the two staircases and people. At the top of the circle 'THE THAMES TUNNEL' is written with a coin between 'THAMES' and 'TUNNEL' which shows Marc Brunel's profile and has 'Sir Isambard Marc Brunel' written above it. At the bottom of the circle is written 'OPENED THE 25 DAY OF MARCH 1843'. Underneath the large circle is a cross section of the entire tunnel showing the two entrances, horses and carriages travelling along the tunnel and the Thames with boats above. The cross-section has letters A-E on it which are annotated above. A, B and C are on the left hand side, while D and E are on the right hand side.
A. The Rotherhithe Entrance.
B. The Wapping Entrance.
C. The Well or Staircase a view of which is given in the Centre.
D. The Tunnel 1200 Feet long.
E. High water mark 76 Feet above the Tunnel. Was 8 Years Building and Cost £446,000.
Above these annotations on either side are sketches of some flowers. In the top left hand corner is a drawing of the Rotherhithe Entrance and in the top right hand corner there is a drawing of the Wapping Entrance. Around the edge of the map is a patterned border.
