DescriptionA printed invitation for the private view of Sir Edwin Landseer's celebrated painting Titania and the Fairies owned by Edwin Landseer Grundy. Grundy was Sir Edwin Landseer's godson.
On the reverse of the invite is a watercolour painted agricultural scene with three figures seated on the handles of a cart. They are framed by trees and an orange sunset. This was painted by Grundy.
This accompanied pages that were removed from a scrapbook which was compiled by Edwin Landseer Grundy and contained many of his own drawings and sketches.
Grundy was an apprentice and junior officer on board the SS Great Britain as well as the Royal Charter in the 1850s. He served on board the SS Great Britain when the ship carried troops to the conflict in the Crimea in 1855/56, which included several visits to the port in Istanbul.
