TitleWatercolours showing scenes in Abergele
Creator Edwin Landseer Grundy (artist)
DescriptionA scrapbook page with two watercolours mounted with scenes in or around Abergele, drawn by Edwin Landseer Grundy, undated.
The watercolour at the top of the page shows a white cottage with a thatched roof and yellow or light brown shutters. It is annotated with a description of 'Cottage in Chapel St, Abergele: part of a (one man) tallow candle factory'. At the bottom of the page is a second watercolour which shows a rural scene with a river and a female figure on the left riverbank. The figure is pulling on a tree sapling or some shrubbery. Behind her is a basket with a red cloth. There is a wooden footbridge which crosses the river in the background. At the bottom of the page is the artist's signature, E. L. Grundy.
The document was removed from a scrapbook which was compiled by Edwin Landseer Grundy and contained many of his own drawings and sketches. Grundy was an apprentice and junior officer on board the SS Great Britain as well as the Royal Charter in the 1850s. Both watercolours are fixed to the scrapbook page with glue in all four corners.
