The letter is accompanied by several detailed sketches on Folio 327 illustrating how Penn believes the wood should be put into the stern tube and offers to send Brunel more detailed drawings if he should wish and if he could provide more detailed dimensions of the tube. From Letterbook relating to the inception of the SS Great Eastern project for the Eastern Steam Navigation Company, from October 1856 to July 1857. Containing copies of letters to and sometimes copies of letters from Isambard Kingdom Brunel regarding the running of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and the building of the S.S. Great Eastern.
