There are paragraphs describing the plating, the fore and aft Helsons, the partial bulkheads, deck beams, shelf plates, bulkheads, approximate bulkheads, forebody, floor, deck beams, stringers, bulkheads, upper deck plates and after body. The paragraphs describe the key dimensions, the locations and the relative positions of various parts of the ship and in some cases specify the materials to be used. There is a small sketch on Folio 51 describing some of the details relating to the specification for deck beams. 5 pages.
From letterbook 1 of the Great Eastern project, dates from the inception of the SS Great Eastern project in May 1852 to April 1855. Letters indexed by date, by addressee, and by sender. Also includes reports and minutes of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company. 1 large quarto volume with spines lettered 'E.S.N. Compy Report Book 1853 I'.
