TitleLetter from Robert Gibson to Isambard Kingdom Brunel about the launching of the Great Eastern
Creator Robert Gibson (author)
DescriptionWritten from 50 Silvester Street, Hull. Gibson offers Brunel his plan, having read in various papers of numerous plans for the launching of the 'Leviathan'. Gibson thinks Brunel might be able to adopt all or perhaps part of his plan and it would not be too costly, particularly if overseen by Brunel himself. Gibson is sure that Brunel will agree the simplicity of his plan without having any practical trial undertaken once he sees a sketch and offers send Brunel a rough sketch or verbal description of the plan whenever he wishes. Gibson explains that he has not shown his plan to anyone else but he has tried out several small-scale experiments to test the principle.
