TitleLetter from John Yates, Secretary to the Eastern Steam Navigation Company, to Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Creator John Yates (author)
DescriptionWritten on headed paper from The Eastern Steam Navigation Company, 13 Gresham Street, London. The letter confirms that Yates has organised a special board meeting according to some resolutions passed at a previous meeting and confirms that he is currently preparing the accounts for the meeting. The letter also comments that Yates and Mr Freshfield (the company's solicitor) have been much occupied dealing with the issue of the company continuing to occupy the premises and plant at Millwall and explains what impacts these arrangements will have on the launching of the Great Eastern and the work that must be undertaken to complete the ship in time for the launch. The letter explains Yates' plans to be at the shipyard to help move the work on and warns that none of the railway bars (to be used for the launching ways) have arrived thus far, even though the launching ways are ready for them and asks Brunel to spur on various manufacturers. This letter was copied in Brunel's volumes of Great Eastern correspondence as DM1306/11/1/5/folio 90-92.
