The letter confirms Brown Lenox & Co's willingness to undertake the manufacture of chain cables and Admiralty anchors for the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and gives details of the prices for each item covering three different dimensions of chain and four different weights of anchor. The letter also sets out the payment terms and the strength to which the chains and anchors will be manufactured but explains that Brown Lenox & Co cannot themselves undertake the proving tests. The letter is accompanied by tables summarising the dimension, weight, proving strain, breaking strain and delivery time for the chains and the weight, proving strain and a description of the anchor as well as the delivery time. There are two small sketches in the upper left hand corner of the first page, either cross sections of a particular piece of chain or anchor or anchor stock or merely doodles.
