DescriptionSpecification, signed by Brown Lenox & Co detailing the chain cables that are being manufactured for the Great Eastern. There is an annotation in the upper left hand corner reading "Sent Copy to Mr Yates 29 April 1857 a fair copy". The specification confirms that the chains manufactured by Brown Lenox & Co are going to be of the best possible quality and subject to all the usual tests required by the Admiralty or usually required in similar contracts and that they will be subjected to an examination by the company and the engineer before being accepted by the company. The letter specifies the tests that the Eastern Steam Navigation Company can submit the chain to and specifies the delivery arrangements. Also included in the specification is a table showing the length of chain tendered for, the dimension of each set of chains, the weight of each chain, the proving strain and the breaking strain
