ОписаниеColoured lithograph print of Clifton with the Suspension Bridge. It shows a view of Clifton and the Suspension Bridge as seen from the south side of the river Avon. The viewpoint is just beyond the Cumberland Basin. In the foreground is a meadow with people walking along the river. A small paddle steamer can be seen alongside a jetty, loading and unloading passengers at Hotwells. There is a further identical paddle steamer coming up the river towards the jetty. Several small sailing and rowing vessels can also be seen in the river. In the background the houses of Clifton rise up the hillside with several terraces and crescents of grand houses visible. Towards the left side in the background is the Clifton Suspension Bridge, complete and open to road traffic, with several horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians visible on the bridge. Below the bridge the Avon Gorge can be seen. The legend below the print gives details of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The print is titled 'Clifton, (with the Suspension Bridge). Opened December 8th 1864'. Details of the bridge are listed such as the span of the bridge, the width between the chains, and the height of the road above high water. The names of the engineers who completed the bridge are also given.
