Notable for improving Newcomen's steam engine in 1765, by introducing a separate condenser to prevent the waste of steam, his first and greatest invention. From the original picture by Sir William Beechey in his own possession, drawn by W. Evans and engraved by C. Picart. Published 1 March 1809 in London by T. Cadell and R.W. Davies.
