He asks Mr Hawes to Support an upcoming bill protecting seamen from involuntary impressment (or ''Crimps'') from their captains and other barbarous practices. He wants the legal rights of seamen to be enshrined in law and bemoans the lack of progress under this current government. Dated 18 July 1845 Contained within an album of letters addressed to members of the Brunel and Hawes families. The letters are contained in a brown hardback album belonging to Lady Sophia Macnamara Hawes.
