The Manhattan was launched in 1931 for the United States Lines and was employed on the transatlantic run until 1940. In 1941 she became a US Navy transport vessel and was renamed 'Wakefield'. After fire damage she was bought by the US Navy and converted to a troupship. After the war she was in reserve until she was finally scrapped in 1965.
